Pelosi Says House Judiciary May Hold Hearings On Kucinich Impeachment Resolution

July 11, 2008

Is this just a stunt to bolster congress’s low approval rating? (9% and even lower than Bush’s)

Let’s overload the office phones of John Conyer’s, Nancy Pelosi and other Judiciary Committee members and tell them it’s about time!

Please tell them to hear all the evidence and all the witnesses– not only for Kucinich’s one article (misleading US into war) but also for ALL of the articles of impeachment.

“Gang of Eight” & Obstruction of Justice should move Conyers, right?

June 12, 2008

Read the impeachable, criminal, anti-Constitutional charges against Bush then ask yourself…

“What is going on here? Why is everyone (almost everyone) in Congress protecting Bush and Cheney?”

We need your fresh ideas! I’m going to start a list:

  1. Obstruction of Justice Tactic: The “Gang of Eight” was secretly tipped off about warrantless NSA surveillance and torture (Articles #24 and #18 ) years before the New York Times and Washington Post revealed them to the public. Those reports have never been disputed.
    • What to do: Call Conyers & chat with him or his admin: It’s basically this: Under the House Ethics Rules, Nancy Pelosi and other witnesses (who may be accessories) are required to recuse themselves from participation to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest. They are interested parties who can not in good faith move to keep impeachment off the table.

Dennis Kucinich on Secret House Meeting

March 16, 2008

“They try to propagandize the members…so you can’t go outside and talk about it because you would be violating the confidentiality. I just stopped going to them, because I realized they were an attempt to try to spin the members of congress under the pretext of a National Security “Secret”. I think democracy functions much better in sunlight than in the dark.”

Put Impeachment ON The Table of the House Judiciary Committee

November 11, 2007

This week Dennis Kucinich led an heroic effort to put the impeachment of Dick Cheney ON the table by requesting a floor vote on H.Res. 333. As expected, BushDemocrat Steny Hoyer moved to table the bill. And then all hell broke loose as 165 Republicans voted with Kucinich and 85 brave Democrats to force a debate on impeachment over the objections of Nancy Pelosi. To block that debate, Hoyer moved to send H.Res. 333 back to the Judiciary Committee, and this motion passed. Watch David Swanson explain the events to Paul Jay of The Real News.

Kucinich is urging Judiciary Chairman John Conyers to start hearings immediately because Cheney is desperately manipulating the National Intelligence Estimate on Iran to justify a U.S. attack, just as he did with the pre-war NIE on Iraq. But Judiciary Democrats are deeply divided on impeachment, with Robert Wexler (FL-19) calling for immediate impeachment hearings, while fellow Palm Beacher Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20), who is close to Speaker Pelosi, told Ed Schultz she adamantly opposes hearings.

So what do we do next to move impeachment forward?

1. Email all of the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee:
http://www.democrats.com/topelosiandjudiciary
and call them:
http://www.democrats.com/house-judiciary-democrats

2. If you live in the district of a House Judiciary Committee member, call their office and tell them you’re a constituent and you want immediate hearings on H.Res. 333. Then join your Congressional District Impeachment Committee http://democrats.com/cdic-find
and organize a HonkToImpeach rally http://www.democrats.com/honktoimpeach
in front of your Representative’s district office. Then keep up the pressure on your Representative every way you can, including letters to the editor, op-eds, calls to local talk shows, protests at local media offices, and pointed questions at every community forum attended by your Representative.

3. If your Congress Member is not on Judiciary, ask them to cosponsor H Res 333:
http://www.democrats.com/peoplesemailnetwork/73

4. Ask pollsters to poll the public on impeachment, especially of Cheney: http://www.democrats.com/impeachment-poll-petition
and promote impeachment through media activism:
http://afterdowningstreet.org/node/748

5. Watch for updates and notice of a national conference call with Rep. Dennis Kucinich at http://impeachcheney.org and check out the new KUCINICH TV which had it’s first web cast last night.

Rep. Wexler Will Urge the Judiciary Committee to Hold Immediate Hearings on Impeachment!!!

November 8, 2007

Submitted by davidswanson on Wed, 2007-11-07 20:48.
afterdowningstreet.org/

Rep. Robert Wexler sent his constituents this beautiful and admirable Email today:

As a person who supports holding this Administration accountable for their deceptive actions, you may be interested to know about the recent votes in the House regarding H.Res. 333, “Impeaching Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors.”

I share your belief that Vice President Cheney must answer for his deceptive actions in office, particularly with regard to the preparations for the Iraq war and the revelation of the identity of covert agent Valerie Plame Wilson as part of political retribution against her husband. That is why I voted against the motion to table debate on H.Res. 333. Along with only 85 other Democrats, I opposed tabling the measure and supported beginning immediate debate and a vote on the Cheney impeachment resolution. The vote on tabling the Kucinich resolution was rejected, and the House subsequently voted to refer the matter to the Judiciary Committee.

Vice President Dick Cheney and the Bush Administration have demonstrated a consistent pattern of abusing the law and misleading Congress and the American people. We see the consequences of these actions abroad in Iraq and at home through the violations of our civil liberties. The American people are served well with a legitimate and thorough impeachment inquiry. I will urge the Judiciary Committee to schedule impeachment hearings immediately and not let this issue languish as it has over the last six months. Only through hearings can we bring begin to correct the abuses of Dick Cheney and the Bush Administration; and, if it is determined in these hearings that Vice President Cheney has committed High Crimes and Misdemeanors, he should be impeached and removed from office. It is time for Congress to expose the multitude of misdeeds of the Administration, and I am hopeful that the Judiciary Committee will expeditiously begin an investigation of this matter.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns. I sincerely appreciate your input and hope that you will feel free to contact me anytime I may be of assistance to you. In addition, I hope you find my website (http://wexler.house.gov) a valuable resource in keeping up with events in Washington and in South Florida.

With warm regards,

Update on Kucinich’s H.Res. 333, What Happened Tues and What’s Next

November 7, 2007

Update: Wexler is asking us to sign up now to get Cheney Impeachment Hearings Started!

How did your congressmember do? 86 democratic and 165 republican congress members voted the right way. Mine, Chris Van Hollen did not vote to give impeachment a chance.

Kucinich will hold a town meeting this week either on the phone, internet or both. Stay tuned for information.

Impeach supporters, I think this week is a fine time to continue to ask our representatives to sign on as a co-sponsor to the bill. There are 22 co-sponsors so far and after what went down yesterday, I feel with a little more constituent pressure to do the right thing, they could be swayed.

Call Your Congress Members AND Nancy Pelosi toll free at:
1-800-828-0498
1-800-862-5530
1-800-833-6354

Thank you!

PS: it’s important to refer to Kucinich’s resolution as “H.Res.333″ — not “HR333.”
PSS: When you call, go ahead and ask them to start or at least support charging Cheney AND Bush with these additional crimes which are not included in H.Res.333. The charges include: Indefinite detention (habeas corpus), torture, FISA illegal wiretaps and signing statements. (see Takoma Park, MD’s Resolution- it’s a good one!)

Urgent Message for Impeach Supporters - Please Make Calls week of Monday 11/5/07

November 5, 2007

SEND THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

Thank you for supporting the impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney! This is an urgent action request to support H.Res.333, Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s resolution calling for Vice President Cheney’s impeachment; the same message can be found at AfterDowningStreet.com.

In a nutshell, Rep. Kucinich is hoping to bring his resolution to a vote using a parliamentary procedure known as a “privileged resolution.” Once introduced, the resolution has to be brought to the floor within two legislative days, although the House could act on it immediately. Kucinich is expected to bring it to the House floor on Tuesday, November 6!

Click on the links for further information about H.Res.333 and Kucinich’s strategy.

You can help by calling your representatives — preferably more than once — between now and Tuesday, urging them to vote No on tabling (killing) Kucinich’s resolution and Yes on giving impeachment a chance. In Maryland CD 8, Rep. Van Hollen’s phone number is 202-225-5341.

    (I) Congresswoman Diane E. Watson (33rd District, California) endorses H Res 333

On October 13, 2007, in response to a request that LANIC’s Executive Director Peter Thottam made during a Los Angeles Town Hall Q&A session — building on over 10,200 handwritten signatures gathered by Victor Oquendo, Lyn Jensen and numerous other LANIC impeachment activists and volunteers living in and near Congresswoman Diane Watson’s district — Congresswoman Diane E. Watson (33rd District, CA) agreed to immediately endorse the impeachment of both President Bush and Vice President Cheney and stated that she will sign on as an official co-sponsor for H Res 333. The endorsement of H Res 333 was confirmed three times at the Iraq War Town Hall sponsored by CA Assembly Majority Leader, Karen Bass, at Hamilton High School’s Auditorium. It was also video-recorded and verified at the end of the town hall by Congresswoman Diane Watson’s Chief District Representative, Charles Stewart.

With Sunday’s announcement, Congresswoman Diane E. Watson is the 22nd member of Congress to endorse H Res 333. The endorsement is effective immediately and will be formalized this coming week by her staff. House Resolution 333 is a resolution submitted to the House of Representatives by Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) during the 110th United States Congress that, if passed, would impeach Vice President Dick Cheney on three charges. The resolution was introduced on April 24, 2007.
