Citizen Spotlight: Mimi Evans Writes to John Conyers at john.conyers@mail.house.gov

February 10, 2008

Dear Chairman Conyers,
I am a resident of Brooklyn, NY, and the proud mother of a US Marine who served in Iraq. I love America deeply and have studied its history. Though my son came home safe, thousands of other sons and daughters will never return from Iraq. I am convinced that they are fighting for nothing. NOTHING. The war in Iraq is a scam and a sham, and America’s complete and total decline in economic and political prestige is the result. History will be a harsh judge of the sycophants who support George Bush, including almost all of the US Congress - including the lazy, myopic Democrats (and especially Pelosi). Please rise above all of this, and for the sake of the country - envision the sacrifices of the military in EVERY war, not just Iraq - please begin impeachment hearings IMMEDIATELY. People may say, “The end of the administration is near…what good will it do?” I ask you to imagine how much damage Bush, Cheney, Mukasey, Rice etc. can do in a mere week, let alone a full year. Now is the time for utmost patriotism and bravery. Rise above. Answer the call of history. For the sake of all of our children who will now inherit a morally bereft and failing country. Do the right thing and impeach them all.
Sincerely,
Mimi Evans
Brooklyn, NY

Citizen Spotlight: Letter to Chris Van Hollen

November 7, 2007

Dear Congressman Van Hollen:

There is, they say, more than one way to skin a cat. I hope so, because our efforts thus far have yielded a big fat zero. I refer not to the skinning of cats, of course, but to popular efforts at restoring the rule of law in the United States through the impeachment of the President and Vice President.

October 18, 2007

“Never before has there been such a compelling case for impeachment
and removal from office of the president of the United States for heinous
human rights violations, breaches of trust, abuses of power injurious to the
nation, war crimes, misleading Congress and the American people about
threats to our nation’s security and the supposed case for war, and grave
violations of treaties, the Constitution, and domestic statutory law. “

Today’s Spotlight by Kevin Zeese shines on Congressman Olver

October 12, 2007

Please forward to those you think might be interested

Ever wonder why Congress is not holding Bush-Cheney accountable, not using their constitutional power to exercise their authority and impeach the most impeachable executives in our nation’s history? Rep. John Olver (D-MA) has provided a rationale to his constituents that demonstrates how much worse off the country may be then we know.

Rep. Olver is no radical in Congress, indeed he is in the leadership of the Democratic Party serving as Senior Whip for the Democratic Caucus. He has served in Congress for 17 years and prior to that served 24 years in the state legislature of Massachusetts. He has a Ph.D. in chemistry from MIT. His website demonstrates that he is a “meat and potatoes” congressman who seems to spend most of his time bringing economic development dollars to his home district. See http://www.house.gov/olver

Congressman Olver, who represents the 1st District (the Stockbridge area) of Massachusetts, was presented with resolutions for impeachment passed by 13 towns in his congressional district by 2/3 margins. In response he vehemently refused to support impeachment because he expressed the opinion that if the Congress impeached the president would attack Iran by air, declare a national emergency institute martial law and cancel the 2008 elections.

Citizen Spotlight: Letter Requesting promised Meeting with Chairman Conyers - Day Ten

October 10, 2007

(bcc: ImpeachforPeace membership and associates)

This is a second e-mail request following up on one sent on September 25th.

During Honorable Chairman Conyers’ visit to Minneapolis for the Health Care Forum on Sunday, September 23rd he mentioned several times from the podium as well as in personal conversations on the way to the parking lot that he would be willing to meet with impeachment advocates in Minneapolis.

As you may recall, we had a 15 minute meeting scheduled with Chairman Conyers from 3:15-3:30 p.m. that was to follow the Forum on the 23rd that did not take place.

Mr. Joel Sigal, Legislative Assistant to Chairman Conyers, called and left me a message on Wednesday, September 26th indicating that Chairman Conyers had said in the car on the way to the airport that he was interested in returning to Minneapolis to “meet with the impeachment people”. I returned his call on September 27th and left a message but we have not had a chance to speak directly.

Members of ImpeachforPeace.org would be honored to meet with Chairman Conyers at the Congressman’s earliest convenience in either Minneapolis, Detroit or Washington DC.

It is our strong conviction that Democrats are fiddling (suppressing the powerful Constitutionally-based, legally justified and rapidly growing grassroots citizen demand for impeachment) while Rome burns (impending illegal and immoral war of aggression against Iran on top of countless previous and current impeachable offenses by the White House) so please consider this an urgent request.

As defined in our previous e-mail request, the matter we would like to discuss is threefold. Please forward this to the Chairman:

Honorable Chairman Conyesrs,

1). If not impeachment, then what is the plan for full accountability for the Bush Administration? Dates, deadlines and specifics please. We have tens of thousands of members, supporters and associates of many political party affiliations whose tenuous support for Democratic Party election goals hangs in the balance. We would like to help publicize true accountability. (more…)

Spotlight: Naomi Klein’s “The Shock Doctrine” Book and website

October 4, 2007

New website unveiled… ShockDoctrine.com This is such a phenomenal tool online, to accompany the recently released book by Naomi Klein, The Shock Doctrine, we are re-printing here text from her front page, with the accompanying video trailer, created by Alfonso Cuaron. We strongly encourage readers to consider spending some time there; in particular, the growing Resource section is extremely useful. You will be shocked…

scooped from: 911truth.org

About the book:

The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism

In THE SHOCK DOCTRINE, Naomi Klein explodes the myth that the global free market triumphed democratically. Exposing the thinking, the money trail and the puppet strings behind the world-changing crises and wars of the last four decades, The Shock Doctrine is the gripping story of how America’s “free market” policies have come to dominate the world– through the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries.

At the most chaotic juncture in Iraq’s civil war, a new law is unveiled that would allow Shell and BP to claim the country’s vast oil reserves…. Immediately following September 11, the Bush Administration quietly out-sources the running of the “War on Terror” to Halliburton and Blackwater…. After a tsunami wipes out the coasts of Southeast Asia, the pristine beaches are auctioned off to tourist resorts…. New Orleans’s residents, scattered from Hurricane Katrina, discover that their public housing, hospitals and schools will never be reopened…. These events are examples of “the shock doctrine”: using the public’s disorientation following massive collective shocks – wars, terrorist attacks, or natural disasters — to achieve control by imposing economic shock therapy. Sometimes, when the first two shocks don’t succeed in wiping out resistance, a third shock is employed: the electrode in the prison cell or the Taser gun on the streets.

Spotlight: Kent Bye’s “Echo Chamber Project”

October 3, 2007

Kent Bye’s “Echo Chamber Project” is attempting a new type of citizen journalism: an “open source, investigative documentary about the how the television news media became an uncritical echo chamber to the Executive Branch leading up to the war in Iraq.” By “open source,” Bye means that he is sharing both the transcripts and footage from his documentary with anyone who wants to use it or remix it with other footage as they see fit. He is also trying to “develop more sophisticated techniques for citizen journalism,” including new software tools that will enable other collaborative efforts. A preliminary video of the Echo Chamber Project is available on OurMedia.org, a non-profit initiative that provides free storage space and bandwidth to anyone with videos, audio files, text files, or software that they’d like to share with the world.
